Driving targeted traffic to your site means nothing if your
visitors take no action. If your conversion is very low,
you need a ton of ongoing traffic. When you focus on
increasing your conversion rate, you don't work as hard or
spend more money to make a sale.
Wonder how to increase your overall conversion rate?
You'll find the answer to that question in Steps 2 through
7... so keep reading.
Step 2: The Most Important Marketing Technique
I'd like to tell you this method remains one of those big
dark secrets that every successful marketer keeps to
himself. I am here to share that secret... but at last I
can't. Every successful "guru" shouts it from the top of
the mountain.
If you want to improve something, you first need to know
what needs improving. The simple fact... you need to run a
split test if you want to increase your sales with less
effort.
Testing cost practically nothing. You need an ad tracking
program and a split test script. Most shopping carts come
with both. Split testing is so important, we give a split
test script to our subscribers.
If you make changes based on the results of a split test
and saw your sales double or increase by even 1%...
Wouldn't you be excited?
Splitting Is The Easiest Way To Begin Increasing Conversion
Rates.
Simple Conversion Rate Formula...
X divided by Y multiply by 100 = %
Y represent the number of people who took action X
represents the total number of people
See how the formula works...
100 (X) people visit Joe's Java Coffee Shop every morning.
20 (Y) purchase a double mocha. Joe's knows selling more
double mochas could increase his profit margins. But how
many more does Joe need to sell to double the conversion
rate of mocha sells. He divides 20 by 100 =.20 x 100 = 20%.
He only needs 20 more of his customers to buy a double
mocha instead of coffee... bingo... doubled his sales.
You want to do the same to determine your conversion rate.
To get the most accurate numbers, you'll need a large
sampling. A 1000 "unique visitors" is a commonly used
number. Don't use hits, page views, etc. A "unique visitor"
represents that one person who is your potential customer.
They may buy more than one product but still only one
person.
Pay-Per-Click campaign will drive those numbers to your
site fast. It's one the main reasons so many internet
marketers use pay-per-click. Something else happens while
you go for your base number...your setting up your control
element for the split test.
Starting Your A-B Split Test
1. Two versions to test The original item used to get your
base conversion rate and a variation of that item.
2. The traffic needs to be evenly split between the control
and the variation. The split test script should control
this.
3. What version received the most action? Set up your
tracking program to record this information.
4. Accurate results come with a large sample size.
Typically 50 actions results in enough data being
captured over time to produce significant results.
5. Wait for the results Depending on the actions you want
your visitors to take and the amount of traffic to your
site, a split test takes time.
Now you know how to set up and start your split test...
what will you test? Step 3 goes into some things you will
want to test in our next installment.
