Scrapbooking is were one takes an album, decorates it to
their individual tastes and adds pictures, newspaper
clippings, stickers, birthing documents and wedding
licenses and any other mementos one wants to keep. There
are all kinds of different clubs of scrapbookers all over
the place these days and many workshops have scrapbook
night two or three times a week. It's become a great
pastime for some however scrapbooking has been around for a
very long time. I guess it can be true, "what once was old
can now be new again."

The art of scrapbooking has taken off largely due to multi-
level marketing enterprises such as Creative Memories. It
has become a multi-billion dollar industry with numerous
companies creating scrapbooking products. Scrapbooking has
even surpassed golf in overal popularity: one in four
households has a golfer; one in three has a scrapbooker.
> Some people scrapbook just to document their lives and to
save photos from the destructive effects of acid and heat.
Avid scrapbookers create layouts as a type of therapy.
Serious scrapbookers feel their time spent scrapbooking is
an investment in not just the past, but the future also.
They feel that the creativity expressed in their designs
contributes to personal growth that helps them learn more
about themselves.

All scrapbooks tell a story, usually about a family and the
people who pass through their lives. Most scrapbooks
celebrate such lives and tells a unique story of what was
done, how it was done, and who done it. The main purpose of
scrapbooking is to have a record of lives and loves of two
people that fell in love, got married and created a
generation of people to carry on the name of a family.

The most important scrapbooking supply is the album itself,
which can allow for the insertion of pages or permanently
bound. Other formats do exist, such as accordian-style
fold-out albums and mini albums. Basic materials include
background papers, scissors, stickers, rub-on letters, die
cut templates, photo corner mounts, rubber stamps and craft
punches, among a long list of others. Creative materials
are encouraged, so many common craft supplies are utilized
in scrapbooking.

Today, technology has of course made its way into scrap
booking with scanners, desktop publishing programs and
other printing options. Nowadays a person doesn't need to
pick up a pair of scissors or make a cut of any kind.
Anybody can create a professional scrapbook that many would
be proud of. Most scrapbookers feel that computers take
away the meaning of what scrapbooking is all about and they
prefer to have the human touch to their scrapbooks. Which
ever scrapbook one wants, he or she can be sure to find one
that will suit their needs and whether you prefer the more
up-to-date look of the digital scrapbook or one that still
uses scissors and glue, the main reason for a scrapbook
should always be the main focus and that is to record
memories of a lifetime to share and pass on from one
generation to the next.
