Why Blogging can be a Waste of Time and Money

Millions of new blogs are started every day. It is
estimated that no less than one new blog is created every
single second of every day. That is a lot of new material
being added to the internet. On top of this, there are
already millions of blogs on the internet to which new
material is being added.
Many business people have been told that adding a blog to
their on-line repertoire will increase visibility,
bringing more sales and profits for the business. The only
question then, is: "What is the cost of blogging to your
business?"
To calculate this you need to determine what your time
costs you in your business. If your time is worth 100
dollars an hour, then two hours of blogging a week
effectively costs your business 200 dollars a week, or
10,400 dollars a year. That is the cost of blogging for
your business.
Now that you have established the cost, it's time to
compare that cost with the revenues generated by the blog.
This step will require that you can accurately measure
sales income generated directly from links on your blog.
Be sure to include any advertising income, affiliate sales
revenues and any other referral income that is generated
directly from your blog as well. Now compare the total
income against the cost. Is the revenue being generated more
than the cost you established in the first step? If so,
your blog is profitable. If not, you may be wasting your
time, draining your profits and in need of
a change!
Ensure you measure your blog using tracking codes so
you can check the real value of your blogging efforts.
To do otherwise could seriously affect the profitability
of your business.
Blogs can increase visibility for your business and improve
search engine rankings for your sites. However, increased
search engine rankings does not automatically translate to
increased revenues.
Getting the top ranking for certain keywords is not the
same as increasing revenue. If you are using a blog to gain
search engine ranking, but have not measured the income
generated as a result, you could be wasting your time by
writing your blog. Don't just blog because it's fashionable
blog for profit. Measure that profit to know it's working!
